How to record a video?

There are several ways to record/make a video using different software. Some of the most popular methods are shown below.

Free Screen Video Recorder

A compact, yet full-featured screen video recorder and screenshot capture tool that allows you to easily record screen activities and capture anything on the screen including windows, objects, menus, full screen and rectangular regions.

You can choose to save captures to file, clipboard or print them out directly from the program window.

Built-in editing tools include basic functions like resizing, cropping and rotating.

Free Screen Video Recorder saves video files as AVI and image files in BMP, JPEG, GIF, TGA or PNG formats.

Free Screen Video Recorder contains no spyware or adware. It’s clearly free and absolutely safe to install and run.

HyperCam

The program captures the action from your Windows screen and saves it to an AVI (Audio-Video Interleaved) movie file. Sounds from your system microphone are also recorded.

HyperCam supports text annotations, sound, and screen notes (It is really great for creating automated software demos and software training!). You can also select Frame rate and compression quality prior to recording your movie.

UVScreenCamera

Using UVScreenCamera you can easily create animated demos or tutorials by recording your computer’s desktop activity, including all mouse movements, window graphics, mouse clicks, and everything else you see on screen.

Recorded clips are stored into UVF, EXE, SWF or AVI movie files, streaming just 30 to 400 KB per minute.

How to use UVScreenCamera

  1. Run UVScreenCamera
  2. Show everything that you want users to see
  3. Stop UVScreenCamera
  4. Save your film as UVF, EXE, AVI, SWF, FLV, GIF-animation

Debut Video Capture

Debut video capture software is designed to be very easy and intuitive to use, giving you the ability to record essentially any video by capturing video from a webcam, your screen, or a video input device, such as a VHS recorder, within minutes of downloading.

Screencast-O-Matic

One-click screen capture recording on Windows or Mac computers with no install for free!

Just click on the button to start recording. Or you can download an application that you can launch from your Start menu.

Open Broadcaster Software

Open Broadcaster Software is free and open-source software for video recording and live streaming. There are no subscriptions, no payments at all. OBS is available to everyone. Supported features include:

How to take a screenshot?

Using Microsoft Paint

  1. Go to the location you wish to screen.
  2. Make a screenshot by pressing PrtScr (Print Screen) in order to take a screenshot of the whole screen. Or press Alt+PrtScr to take a screenshot of only the active window.
  3. Open any graphics program, for example Paint. (Start → Programs → Accessories → Paint.) Once in the program, press Ctrl+V, or in your toolbar: Edit –> Paste.
  4. Your screenshot will appear in the Paint window.
  5. Click File → Save as….
  6. Choose the file format png or jpg.
  7. Click Save.

Screenshots in Windows (Alternative Way)

In Windows 8, 9, 10 & 11, you can make screenshots by clicking Win+PrintScrn.

This key combo makes a screenshot of the current screen and saves it as a PNG image in the pictures folder by default, i.e. the folder Pictures (C:\Users\Name_Of_User\Pictures\Screenshots). Every file automatically gets a name, like ‘Screenshot (1).png’, ‘Screenshot (2).png’, ‘Screenshot (3).png’, etc.

Taking a screenshot in Mac OS

You do not need any additional software to take a screenshot with the Mac OS. You just need to know several (or at least one) keyboard shortcuts. You can see all of them in the settings of your mac (System Preferences → Keyboard & Mouse → Keyboard Shortcuts).

  1. To capture the entire desktop, press Command-Shift-3. The screenshot will be automatically saved as a PNG file on your desktop.
  2. To copy the entire desktop, press Command-Control-Shift-3. The screenshot will be placed on your clipboard for you to paste into another program.
  3. To capture a portion of the desktop, press Command-Shift-4. A cross-hair cursor will appear and you can click and drag to select the area you wish to capture. When you release the mouse button, the screenshot will be automatically saved as a PNG file on your desktop.

There are also plenty of free programs on the Internet that can help you when taking a screenshot.

One of these programs is Lightshot.

Lightshot is a free screen shot software that works with both Mac and Windows computers; offers a few instant editing features, and then the option to either save your screen shot as a file, or upload it to their website for free.

Creating an account will provide the additional advantage of never losing a screen shot, as the URL is bound to your account so you may find any screen shot you have taken in the past at another point.

  1. Download and install Lightshot. (Once installed it will already be running, and will auto-start itself every time you turn on your computer, so no opening of applications to worry about.)
  2. Then, when you wish to take a screen shot, simply press the Print Screen button on your keyboard, and select the area you wish to take the shot of. You do this by clicking and dragging your mouse.
  3. Then choose how you want to share your screenshot. Refer to the image above if you are confused. You can upload the image online by clicking the cloud button – then just copy and paste the link of the image. You can copy the image to your clipboard. Or you can directly save the image on your computer.

What the login should look like. You only need to do this once to register an account.
